About the Hospital

The Core Public Hospital of Bao'an District

Shenzhen Bao'an District People's Hospital was established in 1984 and rated a comprehensive Grade-3A (top-tier) public hospital in 2011. It serves as the flagship hospital of the Bao'an People's Hospital Group, which coordinates 27 community health centres across the district, and is the primary referral point for emergency, trauma and complex care in western Shenzhen.

The hospital holds strong clinical depth for a district hospital: 46 clinical departments, five built-out emergency centres (chest pain, stroke, trauma, high-risk maternity, and critical children & newborns), provincial key specialities in emergency medicine and clinical nursing, and a partnership with Sun Yat-sen University Sixth Hospital for digestive disease. It is also the Shenzhen University Second Affiliated Hospital and, since 2024, carries the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Shenzhen) nameplate.

For international patients, Bao'an People's Hospital is best understood as western Shenzhen's public safety net — comprehensive, well-equipped, and deeply connected to the district's community health network.

Common Questions

What patients ask about this hospital

What is Bao'an People's Hospital known for?
Emergency medicine (a provincial key speciality), trauma and orthopaedics, and its five emergency centres — chest pain, stroke, trauma, high-risk maternity and critical children/newborns. It is western Shenzhen's core public referral hospital.
Is it a good option for international patients?
It is a public hospital where care is delivered in Mandarin, so coordination support matters more than at a private facility. China Care arranges bilingual case coordination, appointment booking and on-site interpretation, and helps you weigh public versus private options for your case.
How does payment work?
Treatment is billed under the public hospital fee schedule and paid directly to the hospital in RMB. China Care does not handle or mark up medical payments.
How big is the hospital?
46 clinical departments, 1,097 open beds today, with a phase-2 expansion to approximately 3,300 beds under way. It also operates 21 community health centres across the district.
