Southern Medical University Shenzhen Hospital (南方医科大学深圳医院) is a public Grade-3A hospital jointly established by the Shenzhen municipal government and Southern Medical University, opened in December 2015. It is the first 'name hospital' project of Shenzhen's Top-Talent Medical Programme, the only university-owned teaching hospital within the Qianhai Free Trade Zone, and one of the first Chinese hospitals to pass international hospital review accreditation.
Southern Medical University Shenzhen Hospital opened in 2015 as the first 'name hospital' under Shenzhen's Top-Talent Medical Programme, built by the municipal government with Southern Medical University (formerly the First Military Medical University). Rated a Grade-3A hospital in 2022, it passed international hospital review accreditation in 2024 and operates the only university clinical medical college inside the Qianhai Free Trade Zone, running full bachelor's-to-doctorate education.
Clinically, the hospital's provincial and municipal key specialities include gastroenterology (digestive medicine), neurology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, TCM and nursing, supported by national-level stroke, chest pain and thrombosis centres. With 1,101 open beds (2,500 planned) and more than 1.6 million annual visits, it has become a regional referral centre for western Shenzhen — and a natural first reference point for international patients seeking a university hospital beside Qianhai.
