Four registered protocols for stem cell therapy in China for blood and immune disorders operate in the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone: mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy for Graft-versus-Host Disease (GVHD), stem cell therapy for severe aplastic anemia, stem cell therapy for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), and allogeneic adipose-derived MSC immune repair. Filed prices range from ¥63,000 to ¥115,000 per course. This guide explains what each protocol involves, who may qualify, what the registered price covers, and where the evidence is thin — before you send records for a case review.

Key Facts

  • These are registered transformation-application protocols operating under China’s State Council Decree No. 818, in force since 1 May 2026 — not routine hospital treatments and not approved pharmaceutical products.
  • Filed (备案) prices: MSC therapy for GVHD at Shulan (Boao) Hospital ¥100,000 per injection (2 injections); severe aplastic anemia at Hainan Diwan Hospital ¥115,000 per course (3 infusions); ITP at Ciming Boao International Hospital ¥63,000 per course (3 sessions); allogeneic adipose-derived MSC immune repair at Ciming Boao International Hospital ¥76,000 per course (3 infusions).
  • Every price is set by the treating hospital. China Care applies zero treatment markup and bills a separate coordination fee.
  • None of these protocols is a cure. All are investigational in the sense that long-term efficacy data is still accumulating, and eligibility is decided by the treating hospital case by case.
  • Independent clinical evidence varies by condition: strongest background evidence for MSC immune modulation in ITP (a Phase I trial, NCT04014166), thinnest for the adipose-derived MSC item, which so far rests on the zone’s own published overview.

Who Is This Guide For

  • You or a family member has been diagnosed with one of the four conditions below: Graft-versus-Host Disease (GVHD), severe aplastic anemia, immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), or a refractory autoimmune condition being considered for adipose-derived MSC immune repair.
  • You are comparing what is available inside and outside China and want verified, compliance-reviewed information rather than clinic marketing.
  • You understand these are supervised, registered protocols — not guaranteed treatments — and want real eligibility criteria and costs before contacting anyone.

This page covers non-cancerous blood and immune disorders. If you are researching blood cancers, start instead with CAR-T therapy for follicular lymphoma in China, Fucaso (BCMA CAR-T) for multiple myeloma, or bispecific antibody therapy for blood cancer in China.

The prices quoted in this guide are not clinic inventions. If you are evaluating the China stem cell therapy pathway for the first time, it starts with a law: on 28 September 2025, the State Council of China promulgated Decree No. 818, the Regulation on the Administration of Clinical Research and Clinical Transformation Application of Biomedical New Technologies, effective 1 May 2026. It establishes a two-track system: clinical research must be filed and cannot charge patients, and once a technology has demonstrated safety and effectiveness, it may be approved by the National Health Commission for clinical transformation application, at which point the approved hospitals may charge regulated fees (State Council Gazette, Decree No. 818; NHC implementation interpretation).

Hainan’s Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone is the national pioneer zone for this pathway, and the Boao Lecheng stem cell protocols described here carry filed (备案) prices published in the zone’s official overview of approved biomedical new technologies. Reported nationwide, the zone had approved roughly 29 transformation-application projects by April 2026, covering stem cell, immune cell, and gene therapy indications (NBD reporting, September 2026).

A note on what this page is not: this is not a wellness or anti-aging offering. The protocols below treat named, diagnosed conditions. Readers looking at MSC infusions for general rejuvenation should read our separate overview of stem cell anti-aging therapy in China and understand that it describes a different, and even more weakly evidenced, category.

What All Four Protocols Have in Common

Why disease stage and subgroup change everything. Each registered protocol targets a defined mechanism and a defined patient population. A protocol appropriate for one stage or genetic subgroup is not automatically appropriate for another. Precise diagnosis — including genetic or pathology confirmation where required — decides whether any of this applies to you at all.

Eligibility is set by the treating hospital, not by China Care. Across all four protocols, candidates are typically adults with the named diagnosis, adequate organ function, and no active uncontrolled infection (infections must be brought under control before immune-modulating treatment). Beyond that, each hospital applies its own review of marrow, blood, and clinical records. We will not promise you a slot you cannot meet — part of our role is to tell you honestly when the answer is no.

The mechanism is immune modulation, not organ replacement. All four protocols use cell-based immunomodulation to rebalance an immune system that is attacking the wrong target (transplanted tissue in GVHD, platelets in ITP, marrow stem cells in aplastic anemia). A therapy aimed at the underlying mechanism is a different proposition from one that reverses established damage, and clinics that present a single “cure” for every patient deserve scrutiny.

The same caution that applies here applies elsewhere. China’s cell-therapy landscape also includes CAR-T programs for autoimmune disease; our overview of CAR-T cell therapy for autoimmune disease in China describes a parallel route with a different risk profile.

What the Filed Price Does and Does Not Cover

ProtocolHospitalFiled priceCourse
MSC therapy for GVHDShulan (Boao) Hospital¥100,000 per injection2 injections
Severe aplastic anemia protocolHainan Diwan Hospital¥115,000 per course3 IV infusions
ITP protocolCiming Boao International Hospital¥63,000 per course3 sessions
Adipose-derived MSC immune repairCiming Boao International Hospital¥76,000 per course3 infusions

The filed price covers the cell product and the registered procedure pathway as filed. It does not include hospital admission, routine monitoring, imaging, or any concurrent care — those are quoted separately by the treating hospital, case by case.

China Care applies zero treatment markup on the medical side. We bill a separate coordination fee for international-patient support: scheduling, medical-record translation, cross-department case management, and on-the-ground logistics. The final figure is confirmed individually once the hospital has reviewed your records.

The Four Protocols

1. MSC Therapy for GVHD — Shulan (Boao) Hospital

The condition. Graft-versus-Host Disease is a complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in which donor immune cells attack the recipient’s tissues. Severe GVHD can affect skin, gut, and liver and is a leading cause of post-transplant illness.

The registered protocol. The protocol filed at Shulan (Boao) Hospital uses mesenchymal stem cells for severe GVHD after hematopoietic transplantation, delivered as a defined injection course (commonly two injections) aimed at dampening the immune attack while preserving graft function. The filed price is ¥100,000 per injection, with 2 injections as one course.

MSC infusion for GVHD at a Boao Lecheng hospital

Who may qualify. Candidates are typically transplant recipients with active GVHD and adequate organ function. Active uncontrolled infection must be addressed first. The treating hospital confirms eligibility after clinical and lab review.

Risks and limits. Infusion reactions and transient fever are the most common events. Because immune modulation is the mechanism, infection surveillance continues throughout treatment. The protocol is adjunctive and investigational; it is not a guaranteed response, and it is not a cure.

2. Stem Cell Therapy for Severe Aplastic Anemia — Hainan Diwan Hospital

The condition. Severe aplastic anemia is a bone marrow failure disorder in which the marrow stops producing enough red cells, white cells, and platelets. Standard curative options are allogeneic bone marrow transplantation and immunosuppressive therapy.

The registered protocol. The aplastic anemia stem cell protocol filed at Hainan Diwan Hospital uses allogeneic umbilical cord-derived stem cells, delivered as 3 IV infusions per course, intended to support hematopoietic recovery and repair the marrow microenvironment in selected severe aplastic anemia patients. The filed price is ¥115,000 per course (3 IV infusions).

Laboratory processing of stem cell samples for aplastic anemia therapy

Who may qualify. Candidates are typically patients with severe aplastic anemia and adequate organ function, considered when transplantation is not feasible or as part of a defined treatment plan. Active infection must be controlled first. The hospital decides after marrow and blood review.

Risks and limits. Infusion reactions, transient fever, and infection-related monitoring are the main concerns. Expectations should stay realistic: the protocol is investigational, the zone’s own efficacy data for this item is limited, and it is not a guaranteed cure.

3. Stem Cell Therapy for ITP — Ciming Boao International Hospital

The condition. Immune thrombocytopenia is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system destroys platelets. Refractory ITP — ITP that has not responded to first- and second-line therapies — is the population targeted here.

The registered protocol. The protocol filed at Ciming Boao International Hospital targets refractory ITP through immune rebalancing, delivered as 3 sessions per course at a filed price of ¥63,000 per course. The zone’s published overview does not publicly specify the exact cell type for this item; the treating hospital discloses protocol details during case review.

Background evidence. MSC-based immune modulation in refractory ITP has a quantified signal: a Phase I trial of umbilical cord MSC in refractory ITP (NCT04014166) reported an overall response rate of 44.4% (8 of 18 patients) with bleeding fully relieved in most responders and no serious treatment-related adverse events. That trial tested a specific cord-MSC product and is investigational — not part of the current approved indication for any marketed product; it is background for the mechanism, not proof for the Lecheng protocol itself.

Who may qualify. Candidates are typically patients with refractory ITP and adequate organ function. Active severe infection or other uncontrolled illness may exclude treatment. The hospital confirms after blood and immune review.

Risks and limits. Infusion reactions and transient fever are most common. Platelet counts are monitored throughout. The protocol is investigational and not a guaranteed durable response.

4. Immune Regulation & Tissue Repair with Adipose-Derived MSC — Ciming Boao International Hospital

The indication. Unlike the three named diagnoses above, this filed item is framed for refractory autoimmune disease as a category: allogeneic adipose-derived stem cells delivered across 3 infusions for immune modulation, at a filed price of ¥76,000 per course. It is a defined registered course — not a generic immune “reset.”

An honest caveat. This is the thinnest-evidenced item on this page. The protocol, hospital, and price come from the zone’s own published overview; we have not found independent clinical publications describing outcomes for this specific adipose-derived program. If your case is evaluated for this item, the treating hospital’s protocol documents are the authoritative source, and any discussion of expected outcomes should be treated as investigational — not part of the current approved indication of any marketed therapy.

Who may qualify. Candidates are evaluated per the specific immune indication named in the protocol, with adequate organ function and no active uncontrolled infection. The treating hospital decides after clinical and laboratory review.

Risks and limits. Infusion reactions and transient fever are most common. Infection screening and monitoring through the course are standard. The protocol is adjunctive and investigational.

Risks and Limits Across These Conditions

Across all four protocols, a few points apply to every condition. Treatments are delivered under supervised, registered protocols inside the Boao Lecheng zone, but outcomes are not guaranteed and vary by individual, disease stage, and subgroup. Eligibility is assessed case by case by the treating hospital. None of these approaches should be understood as a cure, and no comparison with treatment availability or cost outside China is implied here. Condition-specific risks are described under each section above.

General risks common to cell infusions include infusion reactions, transient fever, and infection risk during immune modulation. Decree No. 818 also requires approved hospitals to report serious adverse events and subjects approved technologies to ongoing re-evaluation — a technology that fails re-assessment can be suspended or prohibited from clinical use (State Council Gazette, Decree No. 818).

FAQ

1. Are these registered stem cell treatments approved medicines in China?

No — and the distinction matters. These protocols operate under Decree No. 818’s clinical transformation application pathway, in which a technology that has completed clinical research is approved for chargeable use at named hospitals. They are not NMPA-approved pharmaceutical products. For post-transplant complications including GVHD, a separately approved MSC drug also exists in China’s market; which route fits a given patient is a clinical decision for the treating hospital.

2. How much does blood and immune disorders stem cell therapy cost in Boao Lecheng?

The filed prices are ¥100,000 per injection (2 injections) for GVHD at Shulan (Boao) Hospital, ¥115,000 per course (3 infusions) for severe aplastic anemia at Hainan Diwan Hospital, ¥63,000 per course (3 sessions) for ITP at Ciming Boao International Hospital, and ¥76,000 per course (3 infusions) for adipose-derived MSC immune repair at Ciming Boao International Hospital. Hospital admission, monitoring, imaging, and concurrent care are quoted separately. All prices are set by the treating hospitals and confirmed case by case.

3. Who qualifies for GVHD stem cell therapy in China?

Eligibility is set by the treating hospital under the registered protocol, not by China Care. Typically: transplant recipients with active GVHD, adequate organ function, and no active uncontrolled infection. The hospital confirms after clinical and laboratory review of your records. We cannot pre-approve anyone — and we will tell you honestly when a case is unlikely to qualify.

4. What is the evidence behind ITP stem cell therapy?

For MSC therapy for immune disorders such as refractory ITP, the most concrete signal is a Phase I trial of umbilical cord MSC (NCT04014166) reporting a 44.4% overall response rate in 18 patients, with no serious treatment-related adverse events. It is early-stage evidence for the mechanism — investigational, not an approved indication — and the Lecheng protocol’s own efficacy data is more limited. No outcome should be understood as a cure.

5. Can international patients travel to Hainan for these protocols?

Yes. Boao Lecheng was built for international patients, and Hainan province has visa-free entry policies for many nationalities; whether you enter visa-free or need a medical visa depends on your nationality and the purpose of your trip. China Care coordinates the hospital-side invitation documentation where required, along with interpretation and on-the-ground logistics.

6. Does China Care provide the treatment?

No. China Care is a facilitation service: we translate records, match your case to registered hospitals and protocols, coordinate scheduling and logistics, and charge a separate coordination fee with zero treatment markup. Treatment decisions, eligibility, and medical care belong entirely to the treating hospital.
